Why I Hate Valentines Day

I'm sure I'm not the only person who feels this way about this day. I've never really been a fan of it. There's no way you can live up to the hype of it all. When I was younger, I hated it because most of the time I didn't have a steady boyfriend, so when February 14th rolled around and all the girls I worked with were receiving flowers, candy and sweet cards, I made myself busy so maybe they wouldn't notice that no one was sending me special tokens of affection. No big deal. There were a few exceptions, but not many. Now that I'm older, I feel like Valentine's Day is nothing more than an obligation to many. I think its much more romantic to get an 'I Love You' card on an ordinary day or maybe one single rose instead of the obligatory dozen. I would rather get one single rose for no reason than a dozen on Valentine's Day because that's whats expected. It's only 9:00 in the morning and already my Valentines's Day is in the dumper. I won't go into details. I just want to get thru this day so I can put another Valentine's Day behind me.

  1. Lisamm,

I'm sorry your husband let you down, but it sounds like you turned it around - Good For You! I can happily say that my boyfriend came thru at the end of the day so that meant alot. Then I ended up having dinner with my BFF and her kids and we had a great evening! I'm hoping this will be a new trend for V-Day for us both!

  2. It sounds like your VDay turned out ok.

Well my expectations are always zero, because my husband just is not very good at holidays. I had stuff for the kids and him and we did that in the morning before school.. my daughter said, "Daddy, what did you get for mommy? Did you remember?" but he was empty handed as always. I told the kids, it's ok, I don't care, and they were like, "Dad!" and he said he would do something, don't worry! That night he came home with grocery store flowers and chocolate, which just felt like-"here you go because I had to get something". There was no thought put into it at all. Whatever, I'm used to it. The kids and I made a special dinner complete with candlelight and he was very surprised. That was pretty cool.
