Today's BTT - What's the worst book you've read recently?
Although I wouldn't necessarily say this book is 'the worst', I would say that it is a book I enjoyed the least. The book is OUT STEALING HORSES by Per Petterson. Many other readers have enjoyed this book very much, however, I just never felt a connection and I thought the story itself was sluggish. Honestly, I had to push myself to finish it. I'm not sure if it was the translation from Norwegian to English or if it was simply the story for me.
Typically, if I'm not enjoying a book, I'll stop reading it, so there aren't many books that I would say were the worst. For more answers to this BTT question, click here.
I am the same way, if I don't enjoy a book, I won't waste my time finishing. But there are sometimes you hope it gets better.
ReplyDeleteThis is the problem - a bad book is very much a subjective thing.
ReplyDeleteYou'll find mine here.
That stinks! I've been wanting to read this one for awhile now. I'll have to give it some more thought - maybe get it from the library as opposed to actually paying for it.
ReplyDeleteI chose The Reader by Bernhard Schlink as my most recent BAD read. You can check out my thoughts here.
It's the same with me. One Scream Away is a rage in the blg world but it did not appeal to me much.
ReplyDeleteBooking through recent worst
Sorry to hear you didn't enjoy the book. Especially since I've got it on my TBR list! But I know it's been getting definitely mixed reviews.
ReplyDeleteI said the same thing...if I am not enjoying a book, I put it down. I never read Out Stealing Horses...somehow it never appealed to me.
ReplyDeleteI'll ditch a book if I am not digging it UNLESS it's a book club book. Then I tend to want to finish it so that I can participate in the discussion.
ReplyDeleteYou are not the only one that did not like Out Stealing Horses because I have read several reviews that were so-so and many that said that it didn't do it for them either. I specifically remember those comments because I was sooooo excited to read it. I think it was even one of my Friday Finds but I ended up taking it off my list.
That's one I set aside, too, but do plan to return to it one day.
ReplyDeleteA Pulitzer Prize winner, no less, was the book I least enjoyed recently....but like all books I do not really enjoy, I abandoned this one.
ReplyDelete"Empire Falls" by Richard Russo - I found it repetitious and I am tired of reading books with this theme/topic. I did not find the writing to be very inspiring either. Way too many words in this book!
I returned it to the library!!! Too many good books out there to read!!
