My two teasers are from page 138 in the novel MUDBOUND by Hillary Jordan, a wonderfully written story of post-WWII in the Mississippi delta.
You couldn't help but watch him; he had that kind of force. He glanced over at me curiously and I realized he's caught me staring.
This from Laura McAllen, the wife of a cotton farm owner, at seeing a colored man in an Army Sargeants uniform, which was unheard of in Mississippi at the time.

I'm almost half way thru it and I love it! I love her writing style. This book was recommended to me by a LibraryThing friend and I'm glad I picked it up.
