Teaser Tuesday: In Cold Blood

Each week, TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:

  • Grab your current read

  • Let the book fall open to a random page
Share with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.

  • Share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given.
    Please avoid spoilers!

My teasers today are from Truman Capote's IN COLD BLOOD.

Afterward, as he crossed the darkening courthouse square, pensively scuffing through dry mounds of unraked leaves, Dewey wondered at his lack of elation. Why, when he now knew that the suspects were not forever lost in Alaska or Mexico or Timbuctoo, when the next second an arrest mightg be made-why was it he felt none of the excitement he ought to feel? ~ page 198

  1. That brought back memories of reading that book years ago. I'm sure you are finding it to be with you for a long time. Capote is a such a good writer.

  2. Interesting teaser. Is this a murder mystery? or a thriller?

  3. Margot - You're right, this book stays with you. I watched the movie 'Capote' a few weeks ago and that's what prompted me to read the book. I couldn't get the movie out of my head.

Caspete - This is the notorious 'first non-fiction novel' about a family that was murdered in Kansas in 1959.

  5. Haven't read the book or seen the movie but your teaser appears to foreshadow up-coming disaster. No excitement because something darker awaits, at least that's the feeling I'm getting from those two sentences.

  7. I love Capote's writing, but somehow I've managed to avoid this one all these years. I should add it to my never-ending TBR list. Good teasers.

  15. Interesting teaser, and I love the additional information I got from reading your comment about it being a fiction type book, but that it is more of a non-fiction, real life story!

  16. Even tho I just started this book, I'm enjoying it. The story is haunting because I know what happens, but his leading up to it is perfectly written. I wish I hadn't waited so long to read any of his books. The Grass Harp will be one I read also.

I really need to read this book. I read Capote in Kansas and it would have been so much more interesting if I'd actually known more about Capote and In Cold Blood!
