Teaser Tuesdays: Jane Eyre

Each week, TEASER TUESDAYS asks you to:
  • Grab your current read:
  • Let the book fall open to a random pageShare with us two (2) “teaser” sentences from that page, somewhere between lines 7 and 12.
  • Share the title of the book that you’re getting your “teaser” from … that way people can have some great book recommendations if they like the teaser you’ve given.
  • Please avoid spoilers!

This week I'm sharing two sentences from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. This is my first time reading this classic novel and I'm really enjoying it.

This wa a demoniac laugh-low, suppressed, and deep-uttered, as it seemed, at the very key-hole of my chamber-door. The head of my bed was near the door, and I thought at first, the goblin-laugher stood at my bedside-or rather, crouched by my pillow; but I rose, looked round, and could see nothing; while, as I still gazed, the unnatural sound was reiterated; and I knew it came from behind the panels. ~ page 113

  2. No one could write those sentences like a Bronte. Certainly makes you sit up and pay attention.
    Enjoy your book.

  3. Wow, if I had a "goblin-laugher" crouching by my pillow, I don't think I'd be springing up to look for it! But then Jane Eyre was very plucky. Great teasers!

  12. oooohhh, good quote. I love this book. Sharon Shinn also has a Sci-Fi novel based on the themes from Jane Eyre. It's really good if you like Sci-Fi, it's called Jenna Starborn

  14. I hope that you enjoy reading this wonderful book. I read it as an adult and just loved it. For me, I like it more than Pride & Prejudice! It's such a rich novel.
I really should re-read this one day soon.

  19. I'm reading Jane Eyre, too! It seems to be the season for this book...many women are reading it now for the first time or rereading it for the tenth. I'm on the 18th chapter and loving every sentence. Of course, I have my dictionary nearby for those big words Charlotte loves to use. That's okay, though, it helps me expand my vocabulary.

Are you enjoying it? I think it's wonderful..
Nice blog and very enjoyable to read. Glad I stopped by!
