The Saturday Skinny: WW Week 5

Hello and welcome to the second installment of my new feature, The Saturday Skinny! Today brings then of my fifth week on Weight Watchers Online. I weighed in this morning and now I'm up to a total of 8.8 pounds lost. I was hoping to reach the first goal of 9.4 pounds that WW set for me but......there's always next week.

I stepped up my exercise this week by walking two miles instead of one. There was, however, two days that I did not work out at all. One of those days was just being lazy and the other, I had been to the chiropractor and was told to go home and rest my back and stay off my feet. Ugh!! Next week I plan to walk two miles every day or at least walk one mile and use the elliptical for 30 minutes. I am a bit disappointed that I only lost one pound this week, but I'm trying to keep it in perspective. At least I've lost weight every single week since I've been on the plan. It may not have been what I hoped for but its still a loss.

I can tell by my clothes that I'm losing weight. I've worn shirts that a few months ago were too tight and uncomfortable to wear, so that makes me feel great and gives me incentive to keep going. I have so many clothes in my closet that I bought last summer and only wore once or twice so its like I already have new clothes!

Things are going really well, however there is one aspect of being on this kind of a lifestyle change that I'm starting to miss. I'm not what you'd call a big drinker by any means, but I do enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine a couple of times a week. I have abstained from all alcohol but I'm really craving it lately. I did have a couple of glasses of Chardonnay on Valentines Day a few weeks ago, and believe me, I paid for it. I only lost a half a pound that week. I know that I can have a glass of wine if I want, but depending on red or white, that is 3 or 4 points. That may not sound like a lot but when you have to count every point you put in your body, you really want to savor them and make them count. So, do I really want to use 4 points for 1 glass of wine? Who can have just one glass of wine anyway?! So, I will keep on the track and once I reach my first WW goal, I will reward myself with a nice glass of vino.

So, that brings me to a question for those of you who have been on a weight loss prgram and really made an effort to abide by the rules. What was your biggest weakness and were you able to stick to the plan or was it too strong of a temptation? I'd love to hear your answers.

Thanks for stopping by to check my progress. I really appreciated your comments last week - they encourage me to keep going, so Thank You!! Have a great Saturday and please stop by again next week to see it I've reached my first WW milestone!

  1. Slow and steady weight loss is so much better than quick weight loss. It sounds like your adopting a healthier lifestyle which is what really works. Keep up the good work!!

  2. I like your new feature Lisa! Can I join you? I've been following WW online for 8 weeks and have lost 13 lbs. I am not exercising much due to some health issues and the weight loss is slower than I want but I'm happy that I'm losing. I love the new WW PP program and I don't attend meetings,I follow online. I don't drink much to be honest, usually once a month at book club and occasionally a half glass now and then. I think it's finding a balance and not restricting yourself if you want something. Work it in and count the points as you'll crave it even more if you restrict yourself too much. My challenge is carbs, I'm not a big sweets eater but crave carbs and salty snacks so I have to be careful not to overindulge. I've found snacks that I limit and portion out and that helps a lot.

  3. You're doing great Lisa. It is hard to give up those things which you really like but why don't you try rewarding yourself for now, say once a week, with a glass of wine. Once you get further along in your weight loss you'll find that you can have one more often and it won't affect your weight as much.

I have already hit my goal and beyond although I did it on my own just really watching what I was eating. When Buddy had passed I found I had no appetite and when I did start eating again I did so sensibly and my weight kept coming down. I've now lost 30 lbs and intend to keep it off.

Stick with it - each day will become easier. You'll go through the rough patches where the cravings will drive you crazy but they'll pass.

    Good luck!

  4. Fantastic!! I would use the points on a glass of vino big time!! I haven't worked with the new system but I want to get back on track soon!! You're doing so great!! Keep the updates coming!

  5. Lisa, you're doing great! I've been averaging around a lb/week loss - I really like the new WW program. Have a great week :)

  6. Thanks for all of your encouraging words! I really appreciate it! I've lost 17 pounds since this time last year but half of that in the last 5 weeks with WW. I hope y'all will keep coming back to check on my progress and to tell me about yours! I'm so glad we can help each other! Thanks again!

  7. My biggest weakness? I am really good at getting to goal, but I am not good at staying there. I think for me, once I win the battle I tend to treat myself never thinking that I will ever end up overweight again. Well, that way of thinking doesn't work.

  8. WW online work! I started it(again) in January, but because of my son's stressful hospital stay I have gone off and haven't motivated myself to start again!
Slow and steady wins the day - you are doing great!
The first time I joined I lost 20 pounds but didn't give up my nightly glass of wine, I just didn't count my exercise and it seemed to even out. I lost 20 pounds in 3 months :)

Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a comment! I look forward to hearing from you again soon!
